Greater Good is a fabulous resource that “turns scientific research into stories, tips, and tools for a happier life and a more compassionate society.” Earlier this month, they published Resources for Women’s Well-Being. Check it out!
Recently (i.e. when I exploded my life by getting off Google) I found some old files I’d forgotten I’d written. This is a little essay-ish thing I wrote in 2021. Enjoy your body today! Strive for some well being.
About My Body
My body like leggings and hates bras. My body likes desserts so much it holds onto them in a pouch around its midsection. It doesn’t like tight shirts.
The best socks are thick and wool. My bathrobe is pale pink and fleece. I don’t have slippers this winter; the dog ate one and I haven’t bought another pair.
The first time I saw ocean I was wearing shorts and a sweatshirt. When I am 70 or 80 I might become a yoga teacher. I’ll wear long flowy pants and those wrap-around shirts that tie. I’ll still wear thick socks.
I bought my senior prom dress with my best friend at Belks. It was long and tight, blue and silky. I was a mermaid. In fourth grade, my mouth loved the candy my teacher let us eat in class. I swigged sour grit from foot-long Pixie Stix or pressed my teeth into a disc of fragrant peppermint till it splintered into wafers.
I have two thousand, three hundred and fifteen pairs of socks.
The dog’s leash is lost. How we lost the leash and not the dog isn’t clear. My body likes the feel of this particular leash in the hand but not the tug of the dog on the leash when he sees a rabbit. My back doesn’t like to be wrenched.
My favorite types of footwear are:
- my red boots
- winter boots with no laces
- warm slippers
- flip flops
- no shoes
My red boots are almost worn out. My sister sent them special to me from Belks. Belks is only in the South. I think it’s really Belk. But everyone says Belks. When I wear the red boots I become a person who wears red boots.
** side note: the dog ate the red boots in 2024. RIP red boots.
