Women’s History

Thanks for reading my posts throughout the past month. I wrote this new poem last week. It actually has disrupted spacing that I can’t figure out how to format on the blog… if you want to see that you can view it here.

In May, I’ll be writing a new poem a day for the whole month over at Tupelo Press’s 30/30 Project. I’ll share reminders and links here, too. See you soon!

Women’s History

for djt

(let me say first
 there are some things
 is it not safe
 for us to say

so we won’t say those things
or if we say them you won’t

 realize we have said them)

All history is women’s history.

My favorite sign at the protest:

I didn’t come from your rib–You came from my vagina.

Someone was handing out postcards–

blank with a stickered address to the White House —to you.

I stared at it for weeks before I scrawled in purple Sharpie

Your policies are hurting my family.

I thought that might catch your eye.

The same insults bullies shouted at [ *  ] child in the park

are being hurled in Congress.

People liked it that my sign said impeach him by the pussy

I wanted to tell you that

I have always preferred not
having my pussy grabbed as well as
not being stripped of my rights)

Oh—and to tell you—I heard this comedian on the radio, being interviewed. The host (it was Terry Gross) asked him about a joke in which he said… I don’t remember…something misogynistic. Some forgettable misogynistic thing. He said perhaps there’s a reason. In response to her pointing out women have been oppressed for centuries, he said:

perhaps

there’s
a

reason—

referring, of course, to

“the weaker sex:”

women are bad drivers, and all that. How they cry. Don’t let them in the military. And such. The apple. The snake.
